Florida softball gets pep talk from Billy Donovan

The Florida softball team got a special surprise ahead of their first game in the Women’s College World Series.

CollegeSpun reports that OKC Thunder coach–and former UF men’s hoops coach–Billy Donovan was present to give the ladies a pre-series pep talk on Wednesday night.

Which has apparently already started working its magic, since the Gators tallied a 7-2 victory over Tennessee on Thursday.

So how did the surprise rally talk come to be? Florida coach Tim Walton became friends with Donovan while they were both coaching at the same school, and contacted him about giving the team a talkin-to.

Walton told GatorSports.com:

“I’m very grateful for him to do that for us. That’s the beauty of coaching at the University of Florida and the culture (athletic director) Jeremy Foley has created for us. Billy’s a friend of mine and someone I look up to.”
