In preparation for the upcoming draft, Michael Qualls has been working through a number of training exercises with a variety of teams. Ranked as the 40th best draft prospect, Qualls was expected to be a second round draft pick.
However, in a workout with the Phoenix Suns, it has been reported that Qualls tore his ACL and will need 6-12 months of recovery.

Qualls will likely be passed up as a draft pick now, but his potential means that a team may take a chance to rehab him as a D-League assignment.
Last season, Qualls averaged 15.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 0.9 steals per game.
An athletic freak with natural defensive prowess, Qualls may still have the potential to be a role player for an NBA squad. Although the recovery will take a large portion of time, the larger part will be for him to recovery mentally. His free-flowing style left him difficult to guard and more than just an annoyance on defense.
As the NBA draft approaches, we can only hope that these injuries are kept to a minimum and the young talents have a chance to prosper.
