Kentucky Wildcats guard Tyler Ulis has compared incoming freshman center Skal Labissiere to former teammate and reigning NBA Draft No. 1 pick Karl-Anthony Towns. Ulis made the comparison in a Q&A with Steve Jones of the Courier-Journal.
Skal is legit. He’s the real deal. I had the same feeling about Karl when he came in. I’m not saying he’s Karl, but he’s a great player. He’s really got a pro type of game.
Well, that’s quite a comparison, isn’t it? A five-star recruit out of Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, Labissiere was ranked the No. 2 recruit in the Class of 2015 by ESPN, but to say that he is like Karl-Anthony Towns is a bit of a stretch.
Towns is seven feet tall and weighs 250 pounds, while Labissiere is 6-foot-10 and a painfully skinny 210 pounds. Though talented, to even put him in the same conversation as Towns seems a bit premature. Then again, perhaps Labissiere has bulked up, so the comparison may not be totally unfair.
Either way, with a recruiting class that also includes guards Isaiah Briscoe, Jamal Murray and Charles Matthews, Kentucky is definitely a team to watch next season.
