Incoming Tennessee freshman still not enrolled

The Tennessee Volunteers men’s basketball team really needs a point guard and could easily have one in incoming freshman Lamonte Turner.

However, according to Ben Frederickson of the Knoxville News-Sentinel, Turner has yet to enroll in the university and it could be due to an academic matter.

“We are waiting for him to post this last grade that he has, and then we will make a decision from there, where he will be,” Barnes said during an appearance at the Pilot Rocky Top League on June 29. “But we plan on him being here next week, unless something changes.”

This likely means that Turner, who reclassified up from the Class of 2016, will be on Campus next month as opposed to right now. That’s all well and good, but there’s no doubt that Barnes and the players would have liked to have Turner on the court sooner rather than later so that a rapport could be built.

This is Barnes’ first season in Knoxville after spending 17 years with the Texas Longhorns, and the program is looking to make more of an impact in the SEC after years of inconsistency, though the Vols did go to the Sweet Sixteen under Cuonzo Martin in 2014.

Campus Sports will update Turner’s situation as more information becomes available.
