Cornerbacks often have plenty of “swagger” and are required to be very confident players. After all, your defensive backs often find themselves in one-on-one situations and have to have that self belief in order to succeed.
Oklahoma Sooners corner Zack Sanchez is just the latest defensive back to fall into that stereotype.
During a Q&A with ESPN, Sanchez was asked about where he stands in the Big 12 and how he wants fans and media members to view him.
Sanchez answered exactly as you would imagine by saying he believes he is the best player in his conference at his position.
I definitely believe I am the best corner in the Big 12. I’ve believed that for a while, now I just gotta go out and prove it, every week, week in and week out … like have no holes in my game and prove to the country I’m one of the best in the country,” Sanchez said.
“When we play teams that may not be a Baylor or TCU, every week bringing the same technique, same edge and same energy.”
You can’t knock that attitude. Plus, many would agree that Sanchez does rank atop the Big 12 at his position so it isn’t like you can call the player delusional.
That is also the confidence that coaches will love, so Sanchez may have just helped himself out by giving becoming the self proclaimed best.
