Stoops to punish defensive players after Tennessee game

The Oklahoma Sooners got a big comeback overtime win in Knoxville over the Tennessee Volunteers this past Saturday. Two defensive players marred that victory as they began taunting the Volunteers fans. It seems as though Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops isn’t going to stand for their behavior as it has been reported that he will be punishing the players.

According to News OK, Stoops said that the actions of safety Hatari Byrd and linebacker Eric Striker are unacceptable. Byrd was photographed flipping off the Tennessee fans after the win while Striker was heard telling Tennessee recruits to “come to Oklahoma.”

“Their actions in the heat of the moment and all emotionally are absolutely inappropriate, and they’ll be dealt with in an educational manner,” Stoops said. “We’ll handle it internally.”

“There’s no excuse,” Stoops said. “They need to understand that. I’ll do a better job of it.”

It looks like these guys made mistakes they will certainly regret over the coming weeks, but hopefully they will learn their lesson. whether they are suspended for a game of just made to do some extra sprints, these two will know to not get tempted and keep their mouths shut in the future.

The Sooners next play the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Saturday, September 19.
