Tragedy has struck a New Jersey high school, after senior quarterback Evan Murray died Friday after collapsing on the sidelines during a game.
Murray was a student-athlete at Warren Hills Regional High School.
After taking a hit in the backfield against Summit High, Murray was helped off of the field by his teammates. Shortly after reaching the sideline, Murray collapsed to the ground and was taken to the field in an ambulance.
Murray’s shocked teammates discussed the tragedy, saying it may have been more than just one hit.
“I’m not sure if it was that last hit on him that actually did the damage, or previous plays. I do know that he wasn’t feeling too good prior to the hit and seemed tired. He did take a pretty hard hit just before the last (hit), where he took a helmet to the stomach,” said junior defensive end Bailey Lieberman, via NJ.com.
Friends and family gathered at the high school on Saturday for a memorial service to mourn the loss.
Our condolences go out to all of Murray’s loved ones.
