When a Division III program hires a head coach, it’s not really big news. But when a Division III program hires a 26-year old head coach, it becomes pretty big news.
East Texas Baptist has announced that it has promoted offensive coordinator Scotty Walden to the team’s head coach. He takes over for former head coach Joshua Eargle, who left for a job at FCS Austin Peay.
“We are excited to name Scotty Walden as the next head coach of the East Texas Baptist University football program,” ETBU athletics director Kent Reeves said in a press release. “Coach Walden brings a passion and enthusiasm to the program which we feel will be infectious with our players and fans.”
Walden has shown promise as a coach since becoming an offensive coordinator in 2012 when his offense averaged an NCAA best 581 yards per game. In 2015, his offense at ETBU put up over 40 points and 450 yards per game.
