Texas Wesleyan adding football program

In 2017, college football will have a new team.

This week, it was announced that Texas Wesleyan will begin competing in football during the 2017 season. Texas Wesleyan will compete in the NAIA’s Central States Football League, according to the Star-Telegram.

The conference also includes Bacone College, Langston Universtiy, Lyon College, Southwestern Assemblies of God, Texas College and Wayland Baptist.

A majority of the universities in the conference are in Texas and Oklahoma, with Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas.

The news of Texas Wesleyan’s football program coming to life first became public knowledge when the university listed an opening for a head football coaching vacancy on the school’s website.

Texas Wesleyan has not had a football program since 1941, so football fans on campus have to be excited over the new development.
