Kentucky coach John Calipari is not only a fine basketball coach, but a molder of young men. His job is to recruit high school players and prepare them for two common goals: to win a championship with the Wildcats and then succeed in the NBA.
That said, when reigning No. 1 overall pick and Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns won the Skills Challenge during All-Star Game festivities over the weekend, it’s no wonder that Calipari tweeted the following.

It’s no surprise that Calipari would feel that way. Think of it as a parent watching their child ultimately succeed at something they’ve been wanting to do their entire life. Calipari has known Towns for a few years now, having recruited him from his high school days and then coaching him in Lexington and to see one of his former players living the dream must stir up all kinds of emotions.
Towns is currently well on his way to being named Rookie of the Year, so it’ll certainly be interesting to see how Calipari reacts to that!
