It’s no secret that Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson is going to be one of the most talked about signal callers throughout the 2016 college football season.
From discussions of him leading the Tigers back to the National Championship Game to talks about his potential as an NFL quarterback, Watson’s name is something fans will be hearing a lot over the next 12 months. Just, not from him.
Watson has made it clear that he won’t be talking about his future on the field until after the 2016 season.
“I won’t make that decision until the end of the season, whenever that final game is, and depending on if I stay healthy and how good of a season this is,” he said. “My main focus is training hard and putting on my weight and getting this whole team on the right page to finish that unfinished business we need to finish. The NFL and all that stuff, I’m not even going to worry about it. … I only get to experience this college football once. I want to live it up while I can.”
It’s the expected response from Watson, and, quite frankly, the right one. By saying you wont talk about your future helps show teammates that the focus is on team success rather than personal advancement.
