Reggie Ragland is a top prospect in this year’s NFL Draft and arguably the best linebacker. So, who will take a shot on this former Alabama Crimson Tide linebacker come April? Ragland believes it will be the Green Bay Packers, if he is available at the time of their pick.
At the Senior Bowl last month, Ragland gathered that Green Bay was quite fond of him. The feeling is mutual, Ragland grew up with a “liking” for this historic franchise.
“I did meet with them, and they talked to me about that they needed a linebacker on the inside,” said Ragland, per 247Sports. “And if they had the opportunity, I think they would. But I’m not sure. It all depends when draft day comes.”
If Green Bay was to draft Ragland, they could then move Clay Mathews back to outside linebacker; a position he is better suited at. NFL analyst Lance Zierlein has listed a inside linebacker as the Packers most crucial need in this years draft.
In the recent drafts, Green Bay has invested in Alabama alumni, drafting Eddie Lacey and Ha Ha Clinton Dix. But if they want to add to their stable of Alabama players, they may have to trade up in the draft. Ragland is listed as a top 20 player and Green Bay holds the 27th pick.
Trading up may be the best move for Green Bay.
