Ford’s Cowboys struggled throughout the 2015-16 season, going 12-20 (3-15 Big 12) and ending its season and postseason on a seven-game losing streak. The 46-year-old went 115-111 (63-80 Big 12) and never once got past the second round of the NCAA Tournament since arriving at the university in 2008. During his time in Stillwater, Ford coached future NBA players Marcus Smart and Markel Brown.
Just what happens next for Ford remains to be seen. He has a career record of 334-262 in time with UMass, Eastern Kentucky and NAIA program Campbellsville as well as Oklahoma State, and is also young enough that he should latch on somewhere.
However, Ford never once even won a regular season championship with Oklahoma State and though he did show prowess with the Cowboys, he had plenty of time to take the program forward but never really got over the hump. Still, there should be enough coaching vacancies that Travis Ford should bounce back easily.
