The fine folks at Bellator MMA are making some major moves. In recent months, Bellator has completed a number of high-profile signings and they added to that list on Monday afternoon.
During an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, UFC veteran and “TUF: Heavyweights” participant Matt Mitrione announced he would be signing with the promotion.
“There comes a time in every athlete’s life, where the scenarios change and the landscape has eroded from what made you fall in love with it initially,” Mitrione said. “It has become that time for me. After a mutually beneficial free agency period, I’ve decided to move my career to Bellator. I’ve enjoyed almost every second of my career and unlike most that switch organizations due to being cut or no longer being able to perform at the sports highest levels, I am bringing a body and skillset that are only getting better and I cannot wait to test my abilities against the best Bellator has to offer.”
Mitrione enters Bellator having fought some of the biggest names in the heavyweight division today including Gabriel Gonzaga, Ben Rothwell, Roy Nelson and Travis Brown. Mitrione also has a win over Bellator standout Kimbo Slice.
In addition to his multi-fight deal, Mitrione’s contract reportedly guarantees six-figure pay and a commentating job for Bellator kickboxing.
It’s safe to say that “Meathead” is happy to get the next stage of his career underway.
