Oklahoma State is in the market for a new basketball coach, but freshman guard Jawun Evans doesn’t want the fans to get too nuts about who the university hires. In a post on his Twitter, Evans called for fans to be patient and to just let the Cowboys’ coaching search play itself out.
Oklahoma State recently fired longtime coach Travis Ford after going 12-20 (3-15 Big 12) in 2015 and missing the NCAA Tournament. Ford had been with the Cowboys for eight seasons, but was never able to get further than the second round of the big dance. Considering how Oklahoma State has not been to the Sweet Sixteen since 2005, back when the legendary Eddie Sutton was coach, one can see why fans are getting a bit antsy.
But Jawun Evans is proving to be wise beyond his years in that he clearly just wants to play basketball and help Oklahoma State get back on the horse after falling hard this season. Regardless of who the coach is, he plans on just playing the game and making sure that Oklahoma State bounces back.
