Alabama head coach Nick Saban has many accolades and accomplishments on his resumé, but can now add being in Fortune Magazine to that ever-growing list.
You see, Saban made Fortune’s “The World’s 50 Greatest Leaders” list, coming in at No. 11.
Fortune further elaborated its reasoning for including Saban on a list that has included sports figures before, with Steve Kerr and Steph Curry coming in at No. 15 this year, but also includes the likes of Pope Francis and Ruth Bader Ginsberg, among others.
“The dynasty was over. That was the consensus of the pundits after Alabama’s 43–37 loss to Ole Miss in its third game of the season last September. The famed “process” that Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban, 64, had used to win three national titles in football at Bama—while boosting graduation rates—and one at LSU had run its course, and the competition had caught up. Saban challenged his team: “How are you going to respond?” When Alabama defeated Clemson 45–40 for another title on Jan. 11, 2016, he had his answer, and the dynasty—and Saban’s legacy as a leader—remained intact,” the website states.
Losing to Ole Miss last season and rallying to win a national championship aside, however, Saban may still be worthy of making this list. Keep in mind that he has gone 100-18 (57-12 SEC) since arriving in Alabama in 2007 and has won four national championships.
Saban has also established himself as, quite possibly, the best recruiter in the nation and the Crimson Tide are constantly in championship contention, even if the BCS has shifted to a playoff.
