A former female student at Baylor, who reported to school officials that she was raped by former Baylor linebacker Tevin Elliot in 2012, has filed a Title IX lawsuit against the school.
Jasmin Hernandez is the one filing the lawsuit, if you’re wondering why her name has been made public, that’s because she is waiving her right to anonymity according to her lawyers. She reported the assault by Elliot to law enforcement back in 2012, although she reports that she received little support from the university when she reported the incident to school officials.
Elliot eventually did get his due, convicted on two counts of sexual assault in 2014 and sentenced to 20 years in prison. At his trial it was discovered that another student reported a rape by Elliot just two weeks before Hernandez.
An email announcing the lawsuit read, in part, “Baylor authorities were negligent in that they had notice that Elliott had sexually assaulted at least one other female student prior to his sexual assault of Jasmin. Knowing this, the university failed to take reasonable measures to prevent him from hurting other students.”
