Antonio Blakeney’s early entrant appearance a mistake

LSU Tigers head coach Johnny Jones has stated that guard Antonio Blakeney still plans on returning to school for his sophomore season and his name being on the list of early entrants was “a mistake.”

“Nothing has changed from Antonio Blakeney’s (decision) last week to withdraw from the draft,” LSU coach Johnny Jones said in a statement. “This is just a case of the formality of the paperwork not reaching the NBA Office prior to the preparation of the list.”

Tigers fans can thus breathe a sigh of relief as Blakeney, a former five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American, averaged 12.6 points per game as a freshman and shot 42.5 percent from the field. With star power forward Ben Simmons NBA Draft-bound, having someone in Blakeney return to help the Tigers compete in the SEC should provide stability.

And thankfully, his name being on the entrants list is no indicator that he has indeed changed his decision. Just the same, stay tuned to Campus Sports for further updates!
