Kirby Smart is okay with grad transfers transferring within the SEC

At a time when the Alabama Crimson Tide are making headlines for refusing to allow a player to transfer within the conference, Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart is sharing his belief that graduates should be free to transfer where they choose.

Smart discussed the topic — which was raised when Alabama refused to grant Maurice Smith his release to transfer to Georgia — and sided with the players.

“Every young man that we want to bring here to the University of Georgia, we want them to graduate from this place,” Smart said via Dawg Nation. “And if they have an opportunity to go to a graduate school at another place, I certainly think that that’s something that we’re going to let them do if they have an opportunity to go, once they graduate. I think that’s important to know.”

If schools truly are looking after the best interest of the student-athletes, they would allow them to transfer wherever they choose.

And for Smart to come forward and support the players in the manner he did can only help his recruiting, because the players know that he will always be looking after them and trying to set them up for the future.
