The LSU Tigers got some good news a few weeks ago as it was reported that former defensive tackle Travonte Valentine had been cleared by the SEC to rejoin the team. He needed to complete one final class at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and on Monday, he did just that.
Ross Dellenger of The Advocate reported Monday that Valentine had finished his final summer course and he would be eligible to fully rejoin the Tigers’ squad. He began practicing with team earlier this month and he will now be able to play going into the 2016 season.
Valentine was a four-star member of the Tigers’ 2014 class, but hit a snag with eligibility in academics. He sat out his true freshman season, but was dismissed from the team in spring of 2015 after his issues were not resolved.
He spent the 2015 season at Arizona Western Community College, where he recorded 11 tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery. He transferred to the Biloxi, Mississippi college to finish his classes after the 2015 season.
His presence for the Tigers will be big this year after senior defensive tackle Christian LaCouture went down for the season with a knee injury.
The Tigers open the 2016 season on Sept. 3 against Wisconsin at 3:30 p.m. EST.
