One member of the Alabama football team who did not see any action during Saturday’s shellacking of the USC Trojans was offensive lineman Alphonse Taylor.
As it turns out, it is because Taylor was suspended for the season-opener.
Alabama head coach Nick Saban confirmed the news following the Crimson Tide’s 52-6 win. Taylor will be eligible to return for the Tide when they take the field in Week 2 against Western Kentucky.
Taylor’s suspension stemmed from an off-field incident in July when the redshirt senior struck another vehicle and was arrested for driving under the influence. Ultimately, he was found not guilty but Saban decided to deliver punishment regardless.
Throughout his career at Alabama, Taylor has appeared in 15 games.
When he returns to the lineup, he will be a very valuable part of the offensive line rotation. Taylor was voted to the second-team preseason All-SEC team entering the 2016 campaign.
