Since joining Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide coaching staff, offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin has had great success. The Crimson Tide have reached the College Football Playoff in two straight seasons with two different Kiffin-led quarterbacks, while also bringing home a national championship.
Now, Kiffin is being financially rewarded.
On Friday, the university trustees’ compensation committee approved a pay raise for Kiffin that will double his previous salary of $714,000. Kiffin will now make $1.4 million on his new deal which runs through Feb. 28.
“It is what the top coordinators are making, and Lane has been very effective for us the two years that he’s been here,” Athletic Director Bill Battle told trustees, according to the Associated Press.
“We feel like this is very appropriate for what he should be making.”
The raise comes with USC’s buyout of Kiffin finally complete.
Alabama returns to the field in Week 2, playing host to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
