Rutgers, Maryland announce football-wrestling doubleheader for 2017

Last year, the Iowa Hawkeyes held a doubleheader with the football and wrestling teams at Kinnick Stadium, breaking the attendance record for a wrestling event. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights and Maryland Terrapins have announced a similar event for the 2017 season.

The teams announced they would host a doubleheader on Nov. 4, 2017 with a wrestling match and football game taking place at Yankee Stadium.

The event will be called the “Big Ten Battle in the Bronx” and both head football coaches seem excited for it.

We are excited to be a part of this event, bringing together college football and wrestling at one of the most iconic venues in sports,” Scarlet Knights head coach Chris Ash said. “The Scarlet Knight fan base is passionate about both its football and wrestling programs and the opportunity to play at Yankee Stadium offers a unique platform.”

Maryland head coach D.J. Durkin added, “We’re thrilled to have the chance for both our football and wrestling programs to compete in such an iconic sporting venue. Playing in Yankee Stadium will be something that excites our players, staff and fan base.”

It should be a fun event for fans and athletes to experience next year.
