LSU football: Players gave Les Miles standing ovation at final meeting

On Sunday, the LSU football program fired longtime head coach Les Miles along with offensive coordinator Cam Cameron following a disappointing 2-2 start to the 2016 season.

The news not only came as a surprise to the fans and media, but also Miles’ loyal players.

Members of the LSU football team were distraught by the news, but according to a first-hand account from LSU Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette, the final team meeting showed the amount of respect they continue to hold for their head coach.

According to Bonnette, when Miles addressed the team for the final time, he left with a standing ovation and hugs from every player as they exited the room.

Here is how Bonnette says it all went down:

“I will give Coach Miles a lot of credit. I was fortunate enough to be in the room this afternoon when he did address the team and I don’t know if there was a dry eye in the room. He said he’s forever a Tiger. He said “y’all go run the table and make me proud.” He said “I’m pulling for you every Saturday night.” And I would expect nothing less, that’s who he is.”

“The team, as Les left, got to their feet and gave him a standing ovation and hugged him on his way out.”

It’s great to see the players got to share one final moment with their coach.

Now, the team has to regroup and move forward with defensive line coach Ed Orgeron taking over as interim head coach. LSU will look to rebound from this past weekend’s loss to Auburn when they host Missouri in Baton Rouge.
