The writing appears to be on the wall that Lane Kiffin will be leaving Tuscaloosa after the season.
Earlier on Friday, reports surfaced that the Alabama offensive coordinator would be coaching his final game with the Crimson Tide this weekend in the SEC Championship.
Kiffin has been named as one of the leading candidates for the LSU offensive coordinator vacancy under his former USC and Tennessee colleague Ed Orgeron, but there is another prominent job he could land.
According to a report from SB Nation’s Steven Godfrey, Kiffin is set to interview with the Houston Cougars after the SEC title game on Saturday.
The report also states Alabama head coach Nick Saban is pushing Kiffin towards Houston, likely because he doesn’t want to face his former offensive coordinator in conference play moving forward.
From the report:
Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin will interview for Houston’s vacant head coaching position after the Tide’s SEC Championship against Florida, multiple sources told SB Nation. UH needs a coach to replace Tom Herman, who took the Texas job after two seasons that included a 5-0 record against power-conference teams.
Multiple sources have also confirmed to SB Nation that Alabama head coach Nick Saban is actively promoting Kiffin to Houston, ostensibly to keep his OC from jumping to a division rival next season.
It will be interesting to see where Kiffin ultimately lands, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him jump at the opportunity to take another head coaching gig.
