As the 2016 college football season winds down with bowl season just around the corner, some of the top athletes in the nation are being rewarded for their outstanding efforts on the field.
The latest person to add a piece of hardware to their trophy case is Alabama Crimson Tide defensive lineman Jonathan Allen.
On Monday night, Allen claimed the the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, given annually to the nation’s top defender.
Allen beat out teammate Reuben Foster, Florida State cornerback Tarvarus McFadden, Michigan linebacker Jabrill Peppers and Clemson defensive end Christian Wilkins for the honor.
“I’m so honored when I think about all of the guys who’ve won this award,” Allen said after receiving the award.
Allen has 56 tackles and nine sacks this season.
Now, the defensive standout and the top-ranked Crimson Tide must turn their focus to the No. 4 Washington Huskies, who they will meet in the Chick-fil-A Bowl to determine one half of the national championship game.
