Film director Spike Lee is showing his support for free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick and is calling for fans to join him to speak their minds later this month.
On Tuesday, Lee took to social media to announce a special rally for Kaepernick that will be held outside of the NFL headquarters in New York City. Lee announced the news with a misspelled flyer.
The rally will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 23 at 5:00 p.m. ET.
Whether the rally ends up making a difference with Kaepernick’s employment status remains to be seen, but it will show the league and owners that there are plenty of people who support the quarterback if a nice crowd turns out.
Kaepernick remains unsigned despite a number of other less capable and retired quarterbacks getting calls this offseason, but he remains hopeful that he’ll get a chance to return to the field. Right now, it looks like Kaepernick’s best chance to play in the NFL in 2017 will be with the Baltimore Ravens.
