With nuclear warfare teetering on the cusp of reality, you’d think Donald Trump would have his hands full. Even whilst inflaming a dictator with a Napoleon complex, he’s managed to make new enemies along the way.
The latest: the NFL.
After saying that the NFL had “gone soft” and calling any player who protests a “son of a b***h,” commissioner Roger Goodell responded to them directly with a prepared statement.
“The NFL and our players are at our best when we help create a sense of unity in our country and our culture,” Commissioner Goodell said.
“There is no better example than the amazing response from our clubs and players to the terrible natural disasters we’ve experienced over the last month. Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities.”
It was a safe bet that Goodell wasn’t going to come out guns blazing, ready to defend his league like a snarling dog. But this might have been a little too soft. There is something to be said for taking the high road, though.
Not that it’s a particular difficult road to take when responding to comments made by the our current POTUS.
If history is any indication, there will be a response from Trump on Twitter. He can’t let someone get the last word, even if their response is as bland, calculated and vanilla as Goodell’s was.
