The Auburn football team took down another giant.
On Saturday night, the Tigers upended top-ranked Alabama, 26-14, in the 2017 edition of the Iron Bowl at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The win punched Auburn’s ticket to the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta, where the Tigers will face off against the Georgia Bulldogs in a rematch with a shot at the College Football Playoff on the line.
When the two teams met earlier this season, Auburn topped the then No.1 Bulldogs.
For Alabama, it is a devastating loss that delivers a huge blow to their College Football Playoff hopes.
The Crimson Tide now finish the season at 11-1 and must wait to see whether they will be given an opportunity to play for a national championship despite missing out on the conference title game.
Last season, Ohio State was given the nod despite failing to win the Big Ten, so it will be interesting to see if Alabama receives the same luck.
Auburn and Georgia will meet at Mercedes-Benz Stadium next Saturday at 4:00 p.m. ET.
Congratulations to the SEC West Champion Auburn Tigers.
The Auburn Tigers are your 2017 @SEC West Champions! See you in Atlanta.
