The Oklahoma State basketball program dismissed two players this week.
Cowboys head coach Mike Boynton announced that junior Davon Dillard and freshman Zack Dawson were booted from the team after previously being suspended for “failure to meet team standards.”
Dillard missed the first five games of the year, while Dawson served a one-game suspension.
“This is probably the worst, if there’s a worst part of the job, is that these things happen,” Boynton said, via the Tulsa World. “But my first and foremost responsibility is to the program. And I can’t make compromises in our core values when it comes to individual players.
“Neither one of those kids is a bad kid and that’s what makes it really, really hard. But they need this, and our program needs to move forward at this point. Certainly not an easy decision, but it’s one that’s necessary.”
Dillard was the biggest contributor of the two, averaging just 4.3 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.
Oklahoma State returns to the court on Saturday afternoon against the No. 19 Florida State Seminoles. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 2.
