Penn State star Saquon Barkley, the top-rated running back in the 2018 NFL Draft class, was already having an impressive performance at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
After arriving at Lucas Oil Stadium, Barkley has reportedly been impressing teams off the field during interviews. Then, for his first workout, the Nittany Lions standout led all running backs with a whopping 29 reps of 225-pounds on the bench press.
Friday, Barkley joined the rest of the running backs for on-field workouts and did not slow down.
Barkley began his day by showing off his leaping ability and registering a 41-inch vertical leap. Then, it was time to show off his speed.
On his first attempt, the 6-foot, 233 pounder ran a 4.41 40-yard dash.

On his second attempt, Barkley checked in at 4.42
Here’s some food for thought:
For perspective:
Saquon Barkley: 6’0. 233 lbs. 41-inch vertical. 4.41 40-yard dash.
Ezekiel Elliott: 6’0. 225 lbs. 31-inch vertical. 4.47 40-yard dash.— The Ringer (@ringer) March 2, 2018
We will update the post with official times when they become available.
The running back previously recorded a sub-4.4 time while training at Penn State, so if he looks to improve his numbers at the Nittany Lions’ Pro Day we could end up seeing another blistering time.
Barkley entered the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine as a surefire first-round pick and likely top-five selection. If anything, he has only solidified his standing as the top running back and could even be in consideration when the Cleveland Browns are on the clock with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.
