Kyler Murray is one of the most exciting prospects in college football entering the 2018 season, but could the Oklahoma football standout be fighting for his job? If you believe Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley, Murray is currently in a battle for the team’s No. 1 quarterback job after being selected by the Oakland Athletics with the No. 9 overall pick in the recent amateur MLB amateur draft.
“Kyler’s not the quarterback yet,” Riley said. “There’s a really good competition going on and Kyler’s gonna have to fight like crazy to win this job.”
If Riley is to be believed, Murray is competing with redshirt sophomore Austin Kendall.

Do we really believe Riley, though? Nah. Murray is the team’s starting quarterback and there is no reason to believe that he will not be under center when the team kicks off its season.
Last year, Murray appeared in seven games for Oklahoma in spot relief where he threw for 359 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.
The Sooners open up their 2018 campaign with what should be a high-scoring affair against Lane Kiffin’s FAU Owls on Saturday, Sept. 1. Kickoff is set for noon ET on FOX.
