Campus Connect: College Sports, Entertainment & Viral News – 7/22

The weekend is almost over, with Sunday, July 22 preparing us for the upcoming week. College life can be busy, so at times it can be tough to keep up with the daily news cycle. That’s why we bring you Campus Connect, where you can catch the latest news in college sports and entertainment to keep on top of the buzz that everyone on campus will be talking about.

College Sports News

Bronny James, the son of new Los Angeles Lakers addition LeBron James, is just 13 years old, but he is already getting looks from some of the top college basketball programs in the nation. This weekend, after Bronny helped lead his team to a tournament win, he also got a good look at the Duke basketball program in Durham.

GLORY 55 took place at Hulu Theatre inside of Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York on Friday night. In the main event, ALex Pereira defeated Yousri Belgaroui via first-round knockout to claim the middleweight championship. Former title holder Tiffany Van Soest also returned to the win column on the Superfight Series with a split-decision win over Sofia Olafsson.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned on Sunday morning with UFC Fight Night 134 at Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany. The event was headlined by a light heavyweight bout by top contenders Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Trevor Smith. When it was all said and done, Smith capped off a night full of decisions with an impressive mauling of the mixed martial arts legend.
