The Alabama football program enters the 2018 season looking to defend its national championship. When the Crimson Tide kickoff their campaign against Louisville on Saturday, Sept. 1, they will be doing so with two new broadcasters in the radio booth. But while they may be new additions to the radio team, they are very familiar names to the Alabama faithful.
Former star quarterback John Parker Wilson will be serving as the color analyst on radio broadcasts alongside play-by-play man Eli Gold. Wilson steps in as a replacement for Phil Savage, who left to join the upstart Alliance of American Football.
Also joining the team is former All-American defensive back Rashad Johnson, who will serve as the sideline reporter.
“We are thrilled to welcome back two of Alabama’s greatest to our football radio broadcasts in John Parker Wilson and Rashad Johnson,” Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne said in a statement. “They are both extremely knowledgeable when it comes to the sport and have great passion for the Crimson Tide. John Parker and Rashad are tremendous additions to our CTSN crew, and we look forward to hearing them, Eli Gold and Chris Stewart, on Saturdays.”
It will be exciting to see how quickly the former Crimson Tide stars acclimate to their new jobs. You know the fans in Tuscaloosa will be excited to see the familiar faces back around the program.
Alabama’s season-opener takes place on Saturday, Sept. 1 against the Louisville Cardinals in the Camping World Kickoff Game at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. Kickoff between the Crimson Tide and Cardinals is set for 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC. Get your popcorn ready.
