Colin Cowherd: Alabama and SEC run is over

In his daily morning show, The Herd, Colin Cowherd displayed his traditional bold statements by iterating the following about Alabama and the SEC as a whole.

“It’s just got too many good teams. Alabama doesn’t have a quarterback, you can’t go into this year with no quarterback in that conference,” Cowherd said. “You’re not going to win 12 games, you’re out of your mind. Alabama’s schedule is the toughest college schedule I have ever seen in my life. I have never seen a college schedule that tough. Ever. Auburn’s no day at the beach, that’s extreme. First week of October to first week of December it’s like 8 teams that could be ranked. Come on!

“Half of them on the road. You’re not going to beat all these teams. First of all, you’re going to get beat up. you’re gonna be without seven or eight starters by the end of it. You play good, physical football teams one after another, another, another. Tennessee, Arkansas, Georgia, LSU, you’re going to be down seven starters by a month. It doesn’t matter how good you are! That new quarterback is gonna be missing three of his offensive line guys and a tight end!”

Cowherd’s logic comes from a belief that college football runs on a cycle. And that the SEC – instead of focusing on the win column – will implode due to inter-conference rivalries and insatiable appetites for competition.

Cowherd’s comments about the conference follow days after SEC Network host, Peter Burns, remarked Alabama, saying “Alabama will go 8-4…” because “…Auburn had the same type of schedule and lost five.”

Extras about Colin Cowherd

Earlier this month, Cowherd interviewed new Michigan head coach, Jim Harbaugh, about this Big Ten conference and the general audacity of the former 49ers chief. His first question alone sparked a moment of awkwardness, followed by misinterpretations and condensed responses, but with a man with a closet full of khakis…Harbaugh is bound for blunders.

A native to Washington State, Cowherd hosted SportsNation with Michelle Beadle and – later – Charissa Thompson (who later transferred to Fox Sports).
