It’s always a great feeling when a walk-on player learns that they’re about to be put on scholarship. In the case of Stanford Cardinal senior linebacker Craig Jones, the reaction of himself and his teammates to coach David Shaw’s announcement is absolutely priceless.
Thanks to a short video posted on Stanford Football’s official Twitter page, we can see just that.

One can’t help but think of the movie “Rudy” when watching this. Jones appeared in just three games last season and had two tackles, and he clearly busted his butt to get Shaw’s attention in camp this summer. His efforts have obviously worked and though he’s overwhelmed with emotion, he has no problem jogging off when his coach tells him “Call your family.”
Just what his role with the team will be this season remains to be seen, but Jones can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing that he won’t be as strapped with academic and football commitments as he was before.
Stanford opens the season on the road against Northwestern on September 5.
