Despite the fact that attending Saturday’s Oklahoma-Tulsa game was a direct violation of the opponent scouting rule, Baylor assistant coach Jeff Lebby was spotted on the sidelines and it was pretty clear that OU coach, Bob Stoops, was not thrilled.
But as it turns out, Lebby, a former Oklahoma player himself, wasn’t there to do any scouting at all. Instead, Lebby claimed that he was there to support his long time friend and former Baylor assistant, Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery.
In a public statement that was retweeted by Kelly Hines yesterday afternoon, Montgomery apologized for inviting Lebby and his wife to attend the game and admitted that it was not at all malicious.
Montgomery also reportedly called Stoops to personally apologize for the mistake he made in inviting Lebby to attend the game.

It looks like the whole thing was just an honest mistake, and one that Montgomery won’t be making again anytime soon.
