Stanford and men’s basketball head coach Johnny Dawkins have agreed to a contract extension. The terms of the agreement remain undisclosed.
Dawkins led Stanford to their first NCAA tournament appearance during his tenure ultimately reaching the sweet sixteen.
The program felt it was imperative they keep Dawkins around and felt the soon to be seventh year head coach was deserving of an extension. The 51-yard old has a career record of 117 wins and 87 losses and appears to have his best years ahead of him.
Dawkins first made his mark on the program by leading the Cardinal to an NIT Championship back in 2012 before building the program into a Sweet Sixteen team.
Dawkins released a statement Wednesday to the press regarding the contract.
“I want to thank athletic director Bernard Muir and the Stanford community for outstanding support and allowing our staff to do what we love,” Dawkins said.
He finished off by emphasizing how, “being part of the Stanford family is special and there is no place I’d rather be. We are committed to enhancing Stanford’s reputation of excellence in the classroom and on the court.”
