Tennessee Volunteers will continue to be without wide receiver Josh Smith, who will miss another week due to a right knee injury. The Florida Gators defense has breathed a sigh of relief after finding out they wont have to face one of the Volunteers top offensive threats. Smith suffered a high ankle sprain two weeks ago and the injury simply hasn’t healed as quickly as the training staff had hoped.
In other news, fellow wide out Von Pearson “practiced a little bit,” according to head coach Butch Jones. Pearson and Smith are just two of the many Tennessee players that have suffered nagging injuries that have limited the team’s on-field production. This season, Pearson and Smith have combined for just eight receptions and 105 yards.
The Volunteers hold a 2-2 record heading into the SEC matchup with the Gators and need a complete team effort to solidify their best win of the young 2014 season. Tennessee has lost its last two games to Top 15 ranked opponents (Oklahoma and Georgia) and need a big win to lift the spirits of the squad.
