Texas State Softball Wins First Sun Belt Championship

|

The Texas State softball program achieved history this weekend. On Saturday, the Bobcats scored a 5-2 win over second-seeded Louisiana to sweep the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. It marked the first time Texas State has won the tournament championship since joining the conference.

Texa State also claimed the regular season Sun Belt title.

“This could not have happened to a better group,” Texas State head coach Ricci Woodard said. “I am so proud of this group. It was a long road getting here. I guess you could say that the third time is a charm. The way the upperclassmen have led this team and put us in a position to get where we are today, it is special.”

Texas State will now advance to the NCAA Championship, though they will not know where they stand in the 64-team bracket until the field is officially unveiled on Sunday.
