Bronny James may just have tipped off his father’s free agency decision. According to NBA legend Gary Payton, LeBron James’ son has “committed” to enroll at Sierra Canyon (CA) School in Los Angeles next year. With the Los Angeles Lakers viewed as the favorite to land James during NBA free agency, this is something that certainly raises some eyebrows.
Payton made his comments in an interview with Sheena Marie of Black Sports Online.
“Anything could happen. People don’t look at everything. [LeBron James’] son just committed to Sierra Canyon which is in the valley of LA,” said Payton, as transcribed by ZagsBlog.com. “That’s a move that they’re going to make.
“If everybody looks at it with a son at that age, you don’t want to be away from him during that period of time. During the time that we’re having, basketball is school time. I think that [Bronny] needs a father during that time and that’s it. I don’t think LeBron is that type of parent, I think he wants to be around his son a lot and see his son play a lot.”
If the news turns out to be true, Bronny would be joining a star-studded cast of young players at Sierra Canyon.
Currently enrolled at Sierra Canyon is five-star guard Cassius Stanley, son of longtime NBA and NFL sports agent Jerome Stanley. There are also two players who carry the names of their well-known fathers — Scottie Pippen Jr. and Kenyon Martin Jr.
It looks like little LeBron already has an eye for the superteam.
Of course, nothing is official at this point, and LeBron will likely keep any announcement under wraps as long as he can, but with the Vegas odds shifting towards the Lakers as the favorite to land his services, a nice mansion in Los Angeles, and reports that his son will be attending high school there, everything seems to be falling into place.
