The Alabama football program didn’t have the top-ranked recruiting class entering National Signing Day 2018, but they landed a huge prospect early Wednesday when Patrick Surtain Jr. announced he would be heading to Tuscaloosa.
Surtain, the son of former NFL star Patrick Surtain, is a five-star defensive back out of American Heritage High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Surtain made his announcement during a star-studded press conference at his high school.
The 6-foot-2 was believed to be deciding between Alabama, Clemson, LSU and Miami. LSU was considered the favorite to land the top defensive back in the nation, but he ultimately decided to join Nick Saban and the championship culture at Alabama.
According to 247 Sports, Surtain is a “fleet-footed cornerback that does a good job of sinking his hips and playing with suddenness” and he is “really coming into his own physically, and is technically sound with the ability to burst out of his breaks to make a play on the football in a hurry.”
Stay tuned to Campus Sports throughout the day for the latest National Signing Day announcements.
